For most pregnant women, the termination of pregnancy is the most difficult part of the process. This is because labor involves a lot of pain. Because of this, most women resort to a C-section delivery, which is far less painful. However, there are instances when there is a need to induce labor earlier than normal. This procedure is very painful and is done only at the utmost necessity. Why Is Induced Labor Needed? Occurrence of an infection inside the uterus. Induced labor is needed in order to not place the fetus at a greater risk from the infection. The baby doses not develop on schedule, making it small for gestational age. The small size may mean fetal growth retardation. Hence, the pregnancy has to be induced. When pregnancy has gone beyond the normal 42 weeks. This is especially critical if there is evidence that the baby is at risk due to a decrease in nutrients from the placenta. If there is a danger that the baby will not get enough nutrients from the placenta even when still well within the normal period of pregnancyWhen there is a complication during pregnancy such as bleeding, gestational diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, or preeclampsiaCompared to a normal delivery, an induced labor is less painful. However, less pain does not mean that there is no pain at all. One will also need to induce labor to protect the health of both the mother and her baby. As painful as it may be, mothers are left with no choice especially when the situation becomes extremely dangerous. What one can do best is to prepare for the long haul of induced labor. What to Do to Diminish the Pain in an Induced Labor? Here are some tips that will terminate or diminish the pain during induced labor:1) By requesting anesthetic injections. This is done only upon the approval of the doctor because any form of medication may be harmful. However, it is still possible to undergo anesthesia in order to eliminate the pain. Apart from the anesthesia, there are pain relievers that are available from drug stores. However, one has first to consult the doctor if the medicine will be good for the condition. 2) One can also diminish the pain during induced labor by practicing breathing exercises. This is important especially if the mother has elected not to avail herself of anesthetic treatment. Along with breathing, one should also learn to push with one’s abdominal and cervical muscles properly. This should make it less painful.3) One should engage in light physical exercises that are fit for pregnant women. An example of such an exercise is walking, which will keep one’s body strong, enabling it to withstand painful episodes during labor.4) Keeping the proper mind frame in the course of the labor. This approach is more of a psychological means because it emphasizes how a woman should handle a painful situation like an induced labor.

When a woman becomes pregnant, it is always imperative that she will take care of her health in a more careful manner than ever. Because pregnancy involves the phase wherein a baby is prepared for its entry into the world in her mother’s womb, it is important for the baby to obtain the proper amount and kind of nutrients that will ensure a healthy and safe delivery.Eating Right during PregnancyThere are various factors that a woman can do to ensure that her health and that of the baby is in good state. For some women, a little exercise will help while others have their own routine that are also beneficial for the baby and for the mother, along with providing a hope for a safe delivery. However, one thing that a pregnant woman should not ignore is to make the healthy choices of foods during pregnancy. During pregnancy, the baby is totally dependent on its mother for nutrients. This is why a pregnant woman must bear in mind that what she eats is not only for her own health but for the baby as well. Here, a lot of misinterpretations exist. Some pregnant women insist that just because there are now two of them to feed, it means she has to double her regular food intake. This is entirely wrong. She does not necessarily have to double her food intake. She just need to make sure that the proper dose of the needed nutrients is more than enough. She also needs to make the healthy food choices.Healthy Foods to Eat during PregnancyWhat are the healthy food choices for pregnant women? There may not be a single list of foods that will be good for all pregnant women. This is because each pregnant woman has her own unique needs. Nonetheless, it is possible to list down foods that will be right for all pregnant women regardless of their state:Lean meat, fish, eggs, and peanut butter. These are rich in protein and they help regulate the protein concentration in a pregnant woman’s body. Inability to regulate protein content in the body, especially in the urine, may cause preeclampsia, which can have fatal consequences. Protein is also vital for cell growth and blood production. These foods are likewise good sources for iron, which is critical in blood cell production. Bread, cereals, rice, potatoes, fruits, and vegetables. These are rich sources of carbohydrates, which are needed for the body’s energy. Moreover, carbohydrates also help in keeping the body warm.Milk, cheese, yogurt, and sardines. These are rich in calcium, which is very vital in making sure that bones are strong as well as in maintaining nerve function.Carrots, sweet potatoes, and leafy green vegetables. These are important for having a healthy skin, for bone growth, and for good eyesight.Citrus fruit, tomatoes, and fortified fruit juices. These are great sources of vitamin C, which is needed to aid in iron absorption and for healthy gums, bones, and teeth.

For every woman, getting pregnant is perhaps the most joyous episode in her life. This is because it is the fulfillment of their role to give new life to this world. As such, a lot of women eagerly awaits the moment when they will finally conceive. However, despite being replete with joy, pregnancy carries with it a lot of risks and difficulties. This is due to the fact that because pregnancy entails systemic changes in a woman’s body, there is always the possibility that something will go wrong somewhere. That is why a woman has to be so careful and vigilant of her health during pregnancy. One of the factors that a woman should look out for during pregnancy is weight gain. Although some gain in weight is to be expected during pregnancy, extreme gain in weight is a clue that something is wrong about the woman’s health. It could mean some problems, such as preeclampsia wherein a pregnant woman gains weight at a very high rate.Importance of Weight GainWeight gain is very important to a pregnant woman. This is because a pregnant woman now needs to take in nutrients for her and her baby. Even without the pregnancy, a woman typically gains weight as she gets older. With the growth of the baby in the woman’s tummy, gaining weight is typically expected. The Right Weight Gain for a Pregnant WomanAny pregnant woman must remember that whatever state of pregnancy she is in, she must gain weight. If a woman does not gain weight, then it is an indication of an even greater problem. Concerning weight gain during pregnancy, an obese woman should gain at least 11 pounds in weight while an underweight woman should gain up to 25 pounds during pregnancy. These figures should be almost doubled for those who are carrying twins. The Right Way to Gain Weight during PregnancyJust because there is now the baby and pregnant woman to feed, it does not necessarily mean that she has to double her food intake. This is not always the correct way of gaining weight, although there may be some wisdom behind the decision to double the food intake. What is very critical is the kind of food taken and to make sure that both mother and child are given the proper nutrients needed to keep both healthy. When Should She Expect to Gain Weight during PregnancyDuring the first trimester, a woman begins to gain weight, although most of the increase in weight is due to water and the materials needed by the baby. During the next two trimesters, weight gain is spread fairly even. However, unlike with the first trimester, weight gain during this period is due mainly to the development of the baby. That is why it is very critical during this period that a woman puts a lot of emphasis on making sure that she and her baby gets the proper nutrients from the right kind and amount of food.

Most people commonly associate hypertension with men. It is as if women could not develop the disease. It is because most information on hypertension center around excessive drinking, smoking, and sedentary lifestyle as the primary causes of developing hypertension. It is scarcely believable to think of women having the same lifestyle portrayed on men who are victims of hypertension. But times have changed and women are just as at risk at contracting the disease as men. In fact, hypertension may even be more dangerous in women than in men because of the different health requirements for women, especially during pregnancy. In this regard, it would be best to have a paradigm shift and consider women to be equally at risk with men when it comes to hypertension. What Is Hypertension? In simple terms, hypertension refers to high blood pressure. It is a condition wherein one’s blood pressure is chronically elevated. It is different from sporadic instances when one’s blood pressure may rise and then settle to normal level later. Signs and Symptoms of HypertensionThere are different signs and symptoms of the condition, and this varies from person to person. Common signs of hypertension, aside from the elevated blood pressure, are dizziness, blindness, muscle fatigue, difficulty in breathing, blurred vision, and sometimes difficulty in walking and other physical motion. Causes of HypertensionThere are two main causes of hypertension: essential and secondary hypertension. In essential hypertension, it is impossible to determine the direct cause of the condition, and it is sometimes attributed to something genetic. Despite its unidentifiable cause, essential hypertension has a lot of risk factors such as smoking, drinking, and a sedentary lifestyle. On the other hand, secondary hypertension can be caused by a lot of traceable factors such as medication, kidney problems, or pregnancy. In the case of the latter, it is very important for a pregnant woman to know if she is hypertensive as the condition may cause complications during pregnancy such as painful and dangerous labor, preeclampsia, or excessive bleeding during delivery. In this aspect, a hypertensive pregnant woman should seek immediate medical attention to avoid falling into risky complications in the course of pregnancy.Handling Hypertension in WomenDespite common beliefs that women develop hypertension as a symptom of their menstrual period, no findings seem to support this theory. What is clear though is that just like in the case of men, having a sedentary lifestyle, smoking, taking illegal drugs, as well as drinking alcohol can contribute to a woman developing hypertension. Because the risks of hypertension to a woman are greater than in men, especially during pregnancy, the following measures should be taken:a) Reduce weight and engage in aerobic exercises, especially walking. A pregnant woman may still take light walks in the morning, depending on the stage of her pregnancy. This will do a lot to counter hypertension.b) Reduce the intake of salt in one’s dietLearn to employ relaxation techniques such as meditation and mind-body relaxation techniques to counter the stress that one may encounter.

Pregnancy is said to be the happiest and most exciting episode in a woman’s life. This is because a pregnant woman will finally be able to fulfill her role of giving birth and being the window through which a new life will be brought to this world. However, despite being a wondrous episode in her life, there are plenty of things that can go wrong during pregnancy. One of these is preeclampsia, which is potentially fatal if this is not treated promptly and properly. Preeclampsia is a condition that arises in pregnant women wherein hypertension results from a high concentration of protein in her urine. However, what is misleading is the belief that preeclampsia in itself is the cause of all disorders. This is erroneous because preeclampsia is referred to as a set of symptoms instead of being the factor that causes illness. As such, most people seek treatment for preeclampsia instead of seeking treatment for the individual symptoms that arise.Further compounding matters are the diverse beliefs as to the cause of the disorder. Some people say that inadequate blood supply to the placenta causes the problem. On the other hand, certain health disorders a woman may have are known to exacerbate the condition. Common Signs and Symptoms of Preeclampsia1) High blood pressure. This is partly due to the high concentration of protein in a woman’s bloodstream. However, even this one is not entirely foolproof as a method of detecting the blood pressure level of the patient because she may have a normally low blood pressure. 2) Swelling of the hands, feet, and face areas. Although a certain form of swelling is common and is in fact expected during pregnancy, unusual swelling in the limbs as well as in the face areas should be a cause for concern. 3) Concentration of protein in urine. Although this is found mainly through laboratory tests, there are kits that women can use to allow detection of the condition at home. When the blood vessels in the kidney become damaged, the protein spills into the blood.4) Sudden weight gain. A weight gain of sorts is to be expected during pregnancy. However, when a woman gains at least 6 pounds in a month could be a sign of preeclampsia.5) Preeclampsia is a problem that all pregnant women face. It usually occurs after the thirty-second week of pregnancy, affecting around 10 percent of pregnant women. Some women experience the problem much earlier, which is actually a rare case. Moreover, women with a history of hypertension, diabetes, diseases of the immune system, or renal diseases have a bigger possibility of contracting the disorder during pregnancy. On the other hand, women with a previous history of preeclampsia have a higher risk of acquiring it during successive pregnancies.Because of the seriousness of the condition involving preeclampsia, the only solution to it is to abort the pregnancy. This is to avoid further complicating the situation, which may further imperil the life of the mother.
