Diet pills don’t work. They are on the market to make money for the manufacturers. They are all hype!
If you are serious and really want to lose weight permanently then you should do it the right way which is to lose 1-3 lbs a week. Make small changes in your routine over time and you will see results.
Over eating may not be the culprit as much as what you are eating. Are you eating a lot of prepackaged foods? Eating a lot of pasta will cause a person to gain weight very easily at least it does for me. Read the nutrition labels on packaging. Did you know that a 20 oz bottle of soda is something like 2 1/2 servings or that those big muffins you can buy are actually 2 servings? Who eats half a muffin? If you do most of your own food preparation you will be eating healthier, smarter, and will have the ability to control what ingredients go into a recipe.
Don’t just use the scale for measuring weight loss. Measure your neck, chest (below your bra line), your waist, and hips. Measure about once a month on the same day of the month. When you weigh yourself do it only once a week and on the same day of the week. We are lightest in the morning after using the toilet.
If you have been doing the same work out all along for 6 weeks or more then your body has adjusted and is no longer challenged. You need to change up your work out so that you’re doing something different.
Are you doing weight training as well as cardio? You should be. Weight training is not likely to cause you to bulk up but it will cause your muscles to become toned and give you a leaner, longer look. It also burns calories for hours after your work out. As you go through your day and especially because you are stronger those muscles will naturally burn more calories. By the way you need to be aware that muscle weighs more than fat so when you start working with weights don’t be surprised that the scale doesn’t change much. However you should feel a difference in your clothing over time.
I assume you are doing cardio of some kind. Change it up and try different routines. There are a lot of resources for finding work outs. If you have cable or satellite there are programs that you can record and work out at your convenience. Your local library may have some videos that you can check out. Your local video store may also have some you can rent. This time of year you can often find exercise videos on sale at places like Target and Kmart. Over the years I’ve purchased several and now I have a small library of them.
Over the years I’ve also purchased equipment so now I have a selection for which ever kind of activity I want to do. I have the least expensive Gazelle; hand weights; a balance ball; a yoga mat, yoga blocks, and a yoga strap; I have a Total Gym, a jump rope, and a floor mat.
Purchase a nice pedometer for yourself. Wear it all day long and see how close to 10,000 steps you can get in a day. It’s really hard to get that many steps in a day. My goal is to get 50,000 steps a week. When I’m doing that I look for ways to get extra steps!
Which ever part of your body seems to hold on to the extra weight or fat will probably be the last place to see a significant difference. There is no such thing as spot training. Working your abs all of the time to lose belly fat will not cause you to lose there first. Our bodies don’t work that way. When we gain weight it may be concentrated in one area but it also shows up all over our bodies.
Abdominal fat can be a real challenge to get rid of but there are other factors…sleep. Are you getting enough? If not that will make it more difficult. Stress where is your stress level? If your stress level is high then that too will make it more difficult to lose fat.
It’s not impossible but you will have to keep working at it. Once you get where you want to be you need to continue to exercise and above all don’t be discouraged.
Think of all of these changes as a permanent lifestyle change so you will achieve your goal and keep that extra weight off.
